Exploratory Group- Join us for a fun-filled 8-week social group. This adaptive program is for young adolescents with a disability(s). Each week we will welcome a new and exciting activity with the goals of enhancing social skills, practicing team-building skills, and having fun. The themes include: baking group, team-based problem solving, creators collaborative, canvas & conversation, card games, and jeopardy not in that order. Visual schedules for each week will be provided under "links". This is not a parent/guardian drop-off program.
Calling All Cooks- Join us for a fun 6-week cooking program to create and snack together. This program is for adolescents with a disability(s) to review basic cooking skills and make a weekly snack as a group. *Week one does not include cooking* We will be using a microwave or toaster oven. No conventional oven or raw meat will be used. A parent/guardian must remain in the building during this program.
This program will include eating various foods and textures. If the participant has Dysphagia (or increased risk due to medicine) or any other difficulty swallowing, dietary modifications (texture, size, etc.), high risk of aspiration, food allergies, or any other food/drink related concerns please contact the recreation department.
Yoga for Neurodiverse Community- A 6-Week Series of Movement, Breath, & Connection. This six-week yoga series is designed for children with disabilities ages 8-12, with a focus on honoring sensory needs, building awareness, and celebrating each unique way of being. Class Structure (50 minutes each week): Each class follows a consistent, supportive rhythm that blends movement, mindfulness, and emotional regulation in a way that's accessible to both child and caregiver. This is not a parent/guardian drop-off program, parent/guardians are encouraged to participate.
Adaptive Group Exercise- Adaptive Group Exercise is a 45 minute group fitness class designed for participants with autism and other special needs. The class will introduce participants to different beginner level exercises and activities with additional supports from the trainer. Each class is split into phases, we start with a group warm up followed by a round of group strengthening and aerobic exercises. Throughout the class each athlete will have an opportunity to try 2-4 1:1 exercises where they will work on higher level exercises with one on one support from the trainer. We wrap up each class with a group stretch to wind down.
All registrants must have an intake assessment completed and on file in the recreation office prior to registering for these programs.
